Chili Parlor Chili

This hearty chili recipe offers a flavorful blend of spices and a rich, meaty texture. The addition of cocoa powder adds a unique depth of flavor.

Ingredients:

Olive oil 1 tablespoon
Ground beef (90/10 or 80/20) 1 pound
Beef or chicken broth 2 cups
Tomato sauce or puree ½ cup
Chili powder 1 tablespoon
Unsweetened cocoa powder 1 tablespoon
Worcestershire sauce 2 teaspoons
Chili flakes 2 teaspoons
Paprika 2 teaspoons
Soy sauce 2 teaspoons
Onion powder 1 teaspoon
Garlic powder 1 teaspoon
Cayenne pepper ½ teaspoon
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper To taste

Instructions:

  1. Brown ground beef: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook for 3-5 minutes, breaking up meat.
  2. Add ingredients: Add broth, tomato sauce, chili powder, cocoa powder, Worcestershire sauce, chili flakes, paprika, soy sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Simmer: Bring to a simmer, reduce heat, cover, and cook for 35-40 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Season: Season with salt and pepper to taste.
